Ricardo Matias Joins Harlem Capital as Senior Associate: A New Era of Growth

by

September 18, 2024 – Harlem Capital is thrilled to announce that Ricardo Matias has joined the firm as Senior Associate. With a strong background in management consulting and nonprofit leadership, Ricardo brings a deep commitment to empowering underrepresented founders and investors. In his new role, he will focus on sourcing and evaluating investment opportunities, supporting portfolio companies, and driving measurable initiatives that foster greater diversity in the startup ecosystem.

Before joining Harlem Capital, Ricardo worked at Common App, where he led equity-focused initiatives to expand access to higher education. He played a key role in scaling Common App’s Direct Admissions programs from a small pilot to a platform serving more than 100 universities. A Duke University graduate, Ricardo began his career at McKinsey’s Washington, D.C. office, advising public and social sector clients on growth and strategy, while also contributing to pro bono projects for local nonprofits.

Ricardo is no stranger to Harlem Capital. As a former intern and two-time venture fellow with the firm, he made significant contributions to various investment deals and helped strengthen HCP’s diligence process. His hands-on experience with portfolio companies such as Singuli, along with his involvement in key investments like Propense, Procision, and Assemble, has equipped him with a unique perspective on the challenges and opportunities facing early-stage founders.

“Ricardo was with us for nine months as an intern, during which time he made a lasting impression on the entire team. We’ve maintained a close relationship both professionally and personally, and it became clear over a year ago that we wanted him back on the team. The timing has finally aligned,” said Henri Pierre-Jacques, Managing Partner at Harlem Capital.

“Ricardo is a star former intern who has a strong work ethic and great deal of curiosity. We are delighted to have him on the Harlem Capital team full-time,” said Harlem Capital managing partner Jarrid Tingle.

Currently based in Los Angeles, Ricardo is eager to expand his network of founders and investors. You can connect with him on LinkedIn and X.
