Summer 2020 Fellows and Interns

Harlem Capital Family,

We hope you are well as these past few days have been tough for many of us. We were fortunate to have our Summer intern class start this week, our eighth cohort. Our interns have been a bright light for us as a firm and in these times it provides us with hope to see such diverse talent also focused on economic empowerment.

This intern class has 5 full-time employees and 1 MBA student. It should be noted that 3 of the 5 full-time employees are incoming MBAs. The employees come from HIG Capital, J.P. Morgan, RBC, IBM and BCG. The interns’ prior experiences include finance, consulting and strategy.

The applicants were chosen from a pool of 865 applications. 32% were women and 63% were Black or Latinx. There continues to be a diverse pipeline of talent as this was our largest application pool to date, leading to a 0.7% acceptance rate. Please join us in welcoming them.

We will also have 2 fellows joining this cohort, one from our Winter 2019 intern class and one from our Winter 2020 intern class. We are fortunate and excited to have them both continue on with the team.

We have now had 46 interns across 2,830 applicants, a 1.6% acceptance rate. We unfortunately aren’t able to work with most that apply, but call on other venture firms to take notice of the diverse talent gap. It has been exciting to see our interns breaking into VC post HCP, joining funds like Female Founder Fund, Lerer Hippeau, KKR, TH Lee and others. It has shown us the power of opportunity as the majority of our interns have never worked in venture before. It has also been amazing to see applicants who didn’t get the internship keep in touch and get into venture, such as funds like Angeles Investors.

Our Fall 2020 application is now open until June 30th, APPLY or SHARE.

Regards,

The Harlem Capital Team
