Harlem Capital Invests in Aunt Flow’s $1.5MM Seed Round

by

Claire Coder, CEO of Aunt flow

Harlem Capital is excited to announce our investment in Aunt Flow, a B2B feminine hygiene provider for enterprises, SMBs and schools. Aunt Flow is based in Columbus, Ohio and led by the CEO, Claire Coder. Claire founded the business in 2016 and has grown the business to dozens of large customers.

“I had the opportunity to meet Claire at Techstars Demo Day and we immediately clicked. We are very bullish on the FemTech industry and there has recently been a push on the consumer side, but Claire has built something special on the business side.” says Henri Pierre-Jacques, Managing Partner at HCP. “We are excited to be the Lead Investor and to be joined by other notable investors such as Precursor Ventures, Break Trail Ventures and Rachel Lam.”

As our first FemTech investment, there was a need for us as non-users to be more open-minded. Even a fund with a gender focus will have biases and that has to be acknowledged during investment committee. We are believers that investors need to be able to invest outside of industries where they are the end users. Claire has shown a constant ability to sell non-users, older procurement officers who are generally men, which is a powerful trait.

Aunt Flow is our first investment as a fund, as we were previously investing as an angel syndicate. We are excited to begin making larger investments and having the opportunity to lead some of our Seed investments. Going forward, we will be using the below criteria as guidance to make investments:

  • Founders: Black, Latino and Women are our core focus, but we can invest in any US based founder
  • Check size: $100k – $500k
  • Round size: $1mm – $3mm (Seed), $3mm – $6mm (Series A)
  • Post-money Valuation: $5mm – $12mm (Seed) and $12mm – $25mm (Series A)
  • Revenue: $100k+, but sweet spot is $250k – $1mm+

Please reach out to us at deals@harlem.capital if you are a founder that meets this criteria. We are excited for this next phase of Harlem Capital and glad to have Claire with us on this journey.

Regards,

The Harlem Capital Team
